When the Healer Receives a Tea Leaf Reading

I hadn't seen my mum for quite some time, so I opted to leave for She Is Wild Fest a day early to grab a quick visit. We were able to squeeze in quite a bit in that short period of time together - lots of catching up and laughing about life.

It had been on my mind awhile that I hadn’t yet had her give me a tea leaf reading. I’ve read hers a few times in the last couple of years - why hadn’t I gotten her to read mine? So, we made sure to do that before I departed for my next leg of the journey (which had pivoted from Boston Bar to Summerland, 5 days before the festival was to begin, due to wildfires).

There I sat, with my lovely cup of Cream of Earl from Banff Tea Company (my mum’s favorite tea, and one I indulge in when I visit). I don’t remember much of our conversation, just the usual morning sleepy/wake up ritual…”How was your sleep? Was the room cool enough?” Living in the desert with trains coming and going tends to lead to a rough night, but it’s mum’s, so who am I to complain?

Finally, the leaves were ready for my mum to interpret. And it was quite significant throughout.

There was something about a developing fetus and grief. Oh my, say no more, I know what that was about. (And as it turned out, that’s what She is Wild was all about - processing deeply held grief about my sweet baby boy that opted out early…it’s amazing how grief is processed…sometimes, you just don’t realize you’re holding it until it’s finally ready to burst forth, all the right “circumstances” leading the way). She asked me about why there would be a unicorn in my cup - again, my loss…our loss…he was my unicorn…

…and then there was some passing through a mountain range - “Cascadia Mountains” popped into my head - and so I researched it a little - and what Google had said at the time was that the Cascade Mountains ended in the Southern Okanagan - so, naturally, I was blown away, because that’s in the general area that I was going. (I further researched it, and Hope is actually the major community that is known as the “gateway” to the Cascades…which is also significant in other ways, though not to the telling of this part of the journey). Nonetheless, blown away - it felt like a rite of passage, a journey, a quest to embark upon.

I also recall something about having a big motorhome, and my husband driving it, steering the ship. How on point - that is one of our dreams! Also, to follow the crow/raven - which is something I do frequently. (As a side note, the Crowsnest/Hwy 3 is also tied into the Cascade Mountains.)

There was certainly a lot more to the reading, and like many clients say, “I should have recorded that!” Alas, we receive what is needed in the moment. And that’s what’s most important. And I am so grateful for what I did retain - because it was almost like a permission - not that I needed it, per se - though attuning to that need to grieve, and aligning all these amazing moments and sisters to do so…showed me just how perfect the unfolding truly is.

I am so glad that your mom was able to read for you, and how much came from it♡.

Thank you, me too. It reminds me of how powerful and profound tea leaf readings are. The cups that hold a story, an unfolding, a space to reflect...such a gift!
